3 Branches of Government

The main body of the Constitution is made up of seven **articles** that explain how the government works. They outline the rules for electing government officials, like Senators, Representatives and the President.
The founding fathers, or framers of the Constitution wanted to make sure that no one person or group became too powerful. They designed a system of 3 branches of government, each with roles to play, and a system whereby the branches could limit each others' power known as checks and balances.
